All About Volvo Air Conditioning Parts

While we could just detail the many parts of an HVAC system, it's easier if we explain how they work together to keep you cooled.

How Does A Volvo Air Conditioning System Work?

There are three main parts to your A/C system: a compressor, condenser, and evaporator. Due to that, cooling goes through a few processes. First, the compressor pressurizes refrigerant until it becomes a hot gas. That gas is then chilled by the condenser, which causes it to turn back into a liquid. After that liquid passes through a valve, it's turned into a low-pressure gas again -- before getting chilled once more by the evaporator and a fan. At that point the cooler air gets blown through your air vents and into the passenger space.

How Do You Spot Failing Air Conditioning Parts?

Signs of trouble include:

  • Warm cabin temperatures, even when you lower the A/C controls
  • You notice sweet smell of coolant in the air
  • Little-to-no air blowing through the vents
  • Your belts show signs of wear-and-tear
