2024 Volvo XC90 Earns Highest Safety Award
Recently, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety named the 2024 Volvo XC90 midsized luxury SUV a 2024 Top Safety Pick+ award winner, marking it one of the safest SUVs on American roads today.
How The IIHS Determines Award-Winners
In order to receive the organization's top safety award, vehicles must pass a number of crash test assessments: moderate overlap, small overlap front, an updated side, pedestrian front crash prevention, and headlight evaluations. The moderate overlap front test was updated in 2022, with new metrics and an emphasis on rear-seat safety that makes it significantly tougher than the previous examination. It simulates the results of a front offset collision between two similarly-weighted vehicles traveling slightly less than 40-miles-per-hours.
When evaluating the 2024 Volvo XC90, the IIHS determined that the SUV exhibited solid structural performance in the moderate overlap test, excellent passenger protection for the driver, and good ratings on both the small overlap front and updated side tests.
